to Ms. Cecilia Shelley -
Teacher of the Year 2001-2002!
Ms. Shelley incorporates the mottos "Fitness is Fun for
Everyone" and "Exercise Today for a Healthier Tomorrow" into her
Physical Education program. This philosophy emerged from her own positive
experiences as a child in physical education class. She participated in
various sports while growing up; AAU Swimming, track, cross-country and
collegiate tennis. Her varied physical education program allows all
students success through movement, thereby improving self-esteem. Thanks
to Cecilia Shelley students at Howard Drive should understand what good
sportsmanship is all about and appreciate the lifelong pleasures that can
be derived from a healthy body and participation in a myriad of fitness
activities.

to Ms. Terri Sabbag -
Teacher of the Year 2000-2001 !
Ms. Sabbag is a terrific teacher. She provides students with real life, immediate reasons for learning. Not only does she teach children but she works with peers in the area of professional development. Her high standards and outstanding teaching are indicitive of her love for learning. Howard Drive thanks Ms. Sabbag for the positive impact on the lives of those she touches.

Mrs. Knighton is a tremendous asset to Howard Drive Elementary. Not only is she an excellent social studies teacher in the Cosmos Center, but she's always helping teachers and students whenever and wherever she can. Thank you Ms. Knighton for always going that extra mile and helping make Howard Drive a great school!

Sallie Mae Teacher Award for Beginning Teachers!There are no better! Ms. Stys and Ms. Russell can be found teaching in 5th grade classrooms. We are proud to have both of these hard working teachers at our school. As a matter of fact, rumor has it that Ms. Stys was a Howard Drive graduate!

Outstanding Science TeacherIf you are ever looking for science material there is a good chance you will find it in Ms. Mercado's 4th grade classroom. Ms. Mercado realizes the importance of learning how to be a good problem solver. She has been recognized by her peers for the outstanding science projects she has her class involved in throughout the year.

Math Superstars
Many students really are superstars! With no parental help, they worked on their weekly Math Superstar worksheets and work towards scoring 300 points or more.. Congratulations to all you super-sleuth problem-solvers! .... what an awesome accomplishment !! Hoping to see many more in May of 2001.
